Often referred to as the “Christian version of New Orleans’ Jazz Fest,” Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church (9700 Scenic Highway, Baton Rouge, LA) will host its annual GospelFest, October 24 – 26, 2014.
GospelFest 2014 is a two-day music ministry workshop and showcase for various talents, such as music, dance, comedy, poetry and mime.  Participants will receive lyrics, Biblical teachings, and guidance on how to enhance their skills from nationally acclaimed recording artist and workshop conductor, Minister DeWitt Johnson, of Nashville, TN.
The festival begins Friday, October 24, 2014, with a vocal workshop lead by Minister Johnson, which will continue on the following morning. The indoor festival will be Saturday, October 25, 2014, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM. Saturday’s festival will also feature a “Tag Team Preaching” session at 3:00 PM, which will be hosted by Rev. Audrey Bowman. Each minister will have only 5 minutes to preach before tagging in the next minister. This session will feature Rev. Thomas Bessix, Rev. Rene’ Brown, Rev. Gregory Coates, Rev. Clee Lowe and Rev. Mary Moss. The weekend culminates with a musical on Sunday, October 26, 2014, at 5:00 PM, which will showcase the workshop choir lead by Minister Johnson. Other special guests include Ontario Showers and Delivered, Greater Expression Mime Ministry, and Donald Godbolt & SG. There will be a free meet-and-greet held one hour before the concert. Light refreshments will be served.
The workshop registration fee is $10.00, which includes brunch on Saturday morning and entry into GospelFest. General admission to Saturday’s GospelFest is $5.00.
Businesses are also encouraged to participate by renting a vendor booth. Spaces are still available for inside the performance area or the perimeter Galleria surrounding the performance square.
